You like someone – a lot.
You’re sitting there with your phone, the text message already typed asking them to hang out or get coffee, you’ve already read over it 10 times for grammatical errors and to ensure you haven’t said too much, but at the same time you want it to be clear enough to get your point across.
Only one thing left to do – send the message. It seems like such a simple task but the act of courage to possibly face rejection weighs pretty heavily. Finally, in a muster of grit and strength your whole body grabs your finger and pushes send. You finally jumped over the edge, into the great unknown.
Now what if we get a little bit more serious. What does it take for someone to close their eyes and actually take a bounding leap into the unknown?
I have always seen the lives of the great champions of the bible as men and women who always jumped. However, when you really think about it, they were all human beings like you and me, and they all had split-second moments where they had to decide to do the impossible. They all had a tipping point.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet, a light to my path.” – Psalms 119:105
“Christianese” has dubbed this verse as a cute Sunday-school reminder that Jesus always has your back. I don’t think most people stop and realize the weight of that statement.
Gideon took on 100,000+ people with only 300 men. David took on a lion, a bear and a 400lb UFC heavyweight champ (oh my! – sorry, couldn’t resist). Esther took on a kingdom. David’s 3 mighty men decided to get a drink from a well in the middle of their enemy’s camp, Moses climbed a mountain knowing the Almighty God would be there, and Elijah went up against 450 false prophets with doctorate degrees.
I can only come to one conclusion of how these crazy people in the moment of truth found the strength to jump. Whether you believe in the theology of the presence of the Holy Spirit or not, they had a divine realization that God was with them, and that He would fight for them.
I need to hear this in my life, and maybe you do too. If you are about to make a bad decision, talk to that person you shouldn’t, look at that web page that will damage you, cut a corner that you don’t need to – just know that God is our tipping point. The more we trust in His divine power, the more we will know without a shadow of a doubt that –
He has.
He is.
He always will be,
There.
“…and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28:20
