30% of young adults in America skip breakfast.
That actually did not shock me as much as it should have. Everyone is busy.
Busy working, busy studying, busy searching, busy buying, busy driving – there are a multiplicity of things we consume that explain why we do not care about a sustaining, life-giving breakfast. Check this out.
“Come and have breakfast,” Jesus told them. None of the disciples dared ask Him, “Who are You?” because they knew it was the Lord. Jesus came, took the bread, and gave it to them. He did the same with the fish.
This was now the third time Jesus appeared to the disciples after He was raised from the dead.

When they had eaten breakfast, Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?”
– John 21:12-15
More than what? What is Jesus talking about?
This group of guys had just been through one of the most insane pivotal experiences of their lives.
They took less than a step toward the world when Jesus spoke up and said, “Wait a minute, you haven’t had breakfast yet!”
If you’ve never read this story, I promise that it is way better than the 15 minutes you just wasted reading the newest presidential race scandal.
During this extremely good breakfast Jesus looks at Peter and says, “do you love Me more than these?”
Ever meet someone that communicated more with their hands than with their mouth? This is what I imagine Jesus doing. He outstretched his arm over the horizon, pointed at their fishing boat and ended his hand with encompassing the other disciples. “Do you love ME more than these?”
If we are honest, the answer would be, “nope“. Wait, Wait, Wait – Stop and really think about this. Why do we focus on improving or maintaining our lives? What do we gain by striving?
Peter’s answer is crazy.
“Yes, Lord,” he said to Him, “You know that I love You.”
“Feed My lambs,” He told him.
In other words;
You will truly know the love you were designed for when you invest in other people. The gospel was never designed to live in your head.
Make some fish and grits and see who shows up.
